Here are some warnings you should read before attempting to mix any formulas:

Never make any compositions with potassium permanganate, it is a very dangerous material that has no business in pyrotechnics.
Be careful with flash powders that contain mg, they are not for amateurs (like me) because they are much more sensitive than Al flash powder compos.
Mg in the presence of water or water vapor evolves into highly explosive hydrogen gas. FeTi (ferrotitanium) is also very dangerous when in the presence of water, more so than Mg. Do not ever use water in mixtures with Mg unless it is treated (coated), and even if it is treated, exercise with extreme caution.
Be careful when using chlorates!
Chlorates and sulfur/sulfide mixes are very sensitive
Chlorate flash decomposes faster than perchlorate flash, chlorate flash is much more dangerous
Chlorates and red phosphorous can spontaneously combust! DO NOT MIX!
Calcium Metal and calcium hydride can react exothermically with water creating hydrogen gas.
Barium Peroxide is prone to spontanious combustion. DO NOT USE IT!
Chlorate and realgar mix to make very sensitive compositions that can explode with little provocation.
Be careful when mixing nitrates and aluminum. They can generate heat, leading to combustion. A little boric acid will counter this effect (usually %1)
Magnesium/Teflon mixtures can spontaneously combust!
Zinc spreader stars are unpredictable and dangerous, be careful when testing stars involving zinc.
Magnesium and ammonium perchlorate can react and spontaneously combust! YOU MUST TREAT MG WITH POTASSIUM DICHROMATE! You cannot simply add the potassium dichromate, you must treat the Mg with it.
Do not use copper sulfate in formulas with Mg and ammonium perchlorate. The copper sulfate absorbs moisture causing the Mg and ammonium perchlorate to react (despite treatment of potassium dichromate), causing combustion.
Dragon eggs/crackling microstars are sensitive. Use extreme caution.
Lead tetraoxide is very poisonous, you must use a vent hood when handling this chemical.
Realgar (As4S4) is arsenic trisulfide, which is part arsenic. It has a very high MSDS risk rating because it is VERY toxic when in contact with skin/breathing dust/ingested.
Be careful with cocoa powders, they are very friction/impact sensitive.
Ammonium Picrate and potassium picrate are very sensitive super-sonic (high) explosives.
Zinc/sulfur is flash. Be careful when using it otherwise (eg rocket propellant).
Never ram a whistle composition! They must be pressed.
Potassium chlorate and gallic acid form a highly sensitive compound. DO NOT USE THEM!
Chlorate whistle compositions are too dangerous to use.
Whistle compositions should be treated like flash compositions, they are explosive when loose!
Be careful with compositions containing peroxides, they are sensitive!
Red thermite is impact/friction sensitive.
Thermite burns at a very high temperature (as high or higher than 4000 degrees C. Be careful.
Friction ignition formulas are... friction sensitive.
Always read MSDS info on chemicals you are using, they may be very TOXIC
